Making the World Less Awkward: Introduction to Human Factors & Ergonomics

$250.00

08/03/26 - 08/07/26

Monday - Friday | 10 AM - 12 PM

Have you ever used an app that was confusing, sat in a chair that hurt your back, or wondered why accidents keep happening even when people try their best? This course is all about the science of the "fit" between people and the things they use—from smartphones and remote learning tools to furniture and airplanes (and everything in between). The goal of human factors is to make human interaction with systems one that enhances performance, increases safety, and increases user satisfaction. In this class, we will explore how our minds (attention, memory, decision-making) and bodies (size, strength, posture) interact with the world around us. Through hands-on projects (e.g., setting up ergonomic furniture) and real-world examples (e.g., Team iPhone vs. Team Android), we will develop the skills to be a better designer, a smarter consumer, and a problem-solver who can make technology work for humans, not the other way around. (Ages 15 - 17)
