Higher Ground Learning ("HGL", "we", "us") provides SAT, ACT and other test-preparation classes, diagnostic tests and tutoring. This policy explains what information we collect through our website (highergroundlearning.com), our short links (hgl.co) and our portal (portal.highergroundlearning.com), how we use it, and the choices you have.
Who our services are for
Our classes and tutoring are for high-school and college students and their parents or guardians. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
What we collect
Parent or guardian details: name, email address, phone number, and anything you tell us in an inquiry or intake form.
Student details: name, email address (if provided), school, graduating year, the class or tutoring they're enrolled in, and any learning or scheduling information you choose to share with us.
Testing and progress: answers and scores on our diagnostic tests, attendance, and notes from instructors and tutors.
Payments: what was bought, the amount and the payment status. Card details are entered directly with our payment processor, Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
Messages: emails and texts we exchange with you, and whether our emails were delivered.
Technical information: basic information your browser sends when you use the portal (such as browser type and device), and cookies needed to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Our class pages count visits and clicks on the Register button without cookies or personal identifiers (and don't count at all if your browser asks not to be tracked), and our emails use standard open and click tracking so we know messages arrived.
How we use it
To register students, take payment, and run classes, tests and tutoring sessions.
To send class logistics, reminders, receipts, test links, results and schedule changes.
To give instructors, tutors and school counselors the information they need for their role (see below).
To keep our records and accounts.
To send occasional news, discounts and college-prep tips if you've signed up for them. You can unsubscribe from these at any time using the link in each email.
Who can see it
We do not sell, rent, trade or share your information with advertisers or anyone else for their own purposes. Within HGL and our service:
HGL staff can see the information needed to run classes and tutoring.
Your student's instructor or tutor sees their students' names, attendance, scores and the details they need to teach.
School counselors at schools we partner with can see which of their school's students are enrolled, attendance and diagnostic results once we release them. They don't see payment details.
Service providers that run parts of our service for us, only to provide it: Stripe (payments), Supabase and Vercel (secure hosting and database), Resend (email delivery), Quo (text messages and phone), Intuit QuickBooks (accounting), Google (staff sign-in, staff calendars and Google Meet), Zoom (online session links), Printful (merchandise orders: name and shipping address), Squarespace (our website and the forms on it), MailerLite (our former newsletter list) and jsDelivr (delivers display code to our online tests and sees only your IP address). They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Texts
If you give us a mobile number, we may text you about your class or tutoring (for example reminders and schedule changes). Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop receiving them, or START to resume.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your student is enrolled with us and for 3 years after their last class or session, so we can answer questions and support returning students. After that we delete it or remove anything that identifies you. We keep payment records for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to:
see a copy of the information we hold about you or your student,
correct anything that's wrong,
delete your information (we'll keep only what we're legally required to, such as payment records),
stop emails (use the unsubscribe link) or texts (reply STOP).
Email info@highergroundlearning.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have these rights under the GDPR; we use your information to provide the service you signed up for and, for marketing emails, with your consent. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
Where your information is stored
Our service providers store information on secure servers, mainly in the United States. If you use our services from outside the US, your information is transferred to and handled in the US.
Security
The portal uses encrypted connections, and family and student sign-in uses one-time codes sent to your email rather than passwords. Access to student information is limited to the people described above.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll let current families know by email.
