After the group class, the biggest point gains come from regular, individualized attention over several weeks. Our 1-on-1 tutoring sessions are tailored to each student and designed to overcome their specific weaknesses, exploit their strengths, and refine student-specific strategies. These sessions work in tandem with the group course, and are perfect for students who are taking the test multiple times, reaching for exceptionally high scores, or facing unique challenges. Students receiving 1-on-1 tutoring also receive unlimited access to online practice materials and extra diagnostic tests with score reports.

1-on-1 tutoring hours are only discounted when purchased alongside a group class. Choose your amount of 1-on-1 hours above and we’ll contact you to schedule them anytime based on your needs and availability. Hours are transferable and never expire.

Master the Most Advanced SAT Math Concepts

Stamp Your Passport to Advanced Math

The topics taught in this class are found in the "Passport to Advanced Math" category of the SAT, which makes up about 28-30% of the hardest math questions on the exam. While they may not appear frequently, mastering these topics can help high-achieving students reach higher scores on the more challenging portions of the math section.

In addition to mastering advanced mathematical concepts, students will enhance essential skills such as problem-solving, time management, critical thinking, and estimation. These skills are crucial for tackling challenging SAT math questions confidently and efficiently.

Sample of Topics Covered

  • Complex number operations

  • Circle and parabola equations

  • Advanced trigonometry (less common identities and applications)

  • Complex functions (interpreting and manipulating)

  • Radian measure

  • Higher-degree polynomials (roots and end behavior)

  • Inequalities with absolute values

  • Graph interpretation (less common graph types)

  • Systems of nonlinear equations

  • Word problems with hidden information

  • Advanced function notation and operations

  • Matrices (basic operations)

  • Exponential functions or equations

  • Interpreting structure in expressions

  • Word problems involving multiple concepts

  • Grid-in questions

  • Data analysis and interpretation

Advanced Problem-Solving Techniques

Students will learn to break down complex problems and employ discriminant analysis for quadratic equations. To improve time management, students practice under timed conditions and learn which questions to prioritize. Additionally, students will hone their critical thinking and estimation skills, utilizing statistics and process of elimination to increase their chances of selecting the correct answer.

These skills empower students to approach advanced SAT math questions with confidence, efficiency, and a higher likelihood of success.

Enrollment Caps and Procedures

Unless stated otherwise, course enrollments will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. When a course reaches maximum class size, subsequent enrollments will be added to a waitlist. In the event of a large course requiring 2 instructors, students will be grouped according to initial diagnostic scores.

This course requires a minimum of 5 students enrolled in order to run. If the course fails to meet minimum enrollment by the registration deadline, the course will necessarily be rescheduled or cancelled as appropriate. In the event of a cancellation or postponement, the course fee will be transferred to the next course at this school, or refunded in full upon request.

SAT Exam Registration

Enrollment in this prep course DOES NOT register your student for the SAT Exam. Parents/Guardians are responsible for enrolling their student(s). Visit the College Board website for upcoming test dates and registration information. Registration for the test is on a first come first serve basis, so please register early to be guaranteed a seat.

Cancelled Enrollment Policy

Full refunds are available for courses purchased from highergroundlearning.com, highergroundprep.com, and hgl.co at any point up to 2 weeks before the course start date. You may cancel your course registration and receive a full refund or exchange it for another course of equal value. If you need to cancel within two weeks, you'll get an HGL Credit for use at any future HGL course or for any HGL 1-on-1 tutoring or similar program. All other returns or refunds for course registrations will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Refunds for online tutoring packages will be evaluated separately from course enrollments. There will be no refunds issued more than 10 days after the final day of classes for online tutoring packages. Cancellations of 1-on-1 lessons with fewer than 24 hours notice forfeit 30 minutes of tutoring time.
